Pragya Singh Thakur, also known as Sadhvi Pragya, is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament who represents the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Previously, she was actively involved with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Thakur was a student of Lahar College and during her college days, she became a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in 1993. Following this, she became ABVP’s state secretary but later left it in 1997. After this, she worked for Hindu Jagran Manch, Durga Vahini, and Rashtravadi Sena. She is also one of the founding members of Vande Mataram Jan Kalyan Samiti. In 2019, she joined the BJP and in the same year, she was made a part of the 21-member parliamentary consultative committee on defense, which is headed by Rajnath Singh. Thakur was one of the prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon bombings where 10 people were killed and 82 people were injured. She was arrested on charges of terror after her bike was found to be used in the incident. Mumbai’s Anti-Terrorist Squad alleged that Thakur formed a group to take revenge for the 2006 Mumbai train bombings.
